New and improved trimet.org adds flexibility, functionality for riders

Updates to TriMet’s website rolled out Wednesday, July 8, helping riders seamlessly plan transit trips throughout the Portland metro area with partners including C-TRAN; Sandy Area Metro (SAM); Wilsonville’s SMART; shuttle services in Multnomah, Washington and Clackamas counties; and Explore Washington Park

Whether you’re looking for the right bus to get you to the store or planning a trip across town — or beyond — trimet.org has you covered.

We’ve improved our website, expanding our Trip Planner and adding features to make it more flexible, powerful and easier to use. We’ve teamed up with regional transit and shuttle service providers so trimet.org can be your one stop for planning transit trips to destinations in Multnomah, Washington and Clackamas counties, as well as Vancouver and Clark County, Washington. And we’ve introduced popular features to the site like dark mode, in response to rider requests.

“By adding C-TRAN and other local transit providers to our Trip Planner at trimet.org, we’re making transit easier and more appealing for more people,” said TriMet General Manager Sam Desue Jr. “Now, riders can get step-by-step directions for not just TriMet trips but virtually any transit trips in the Portland metro area — all in one place.”

“We are an interconnected region, and we know there are many transit users who regularly ride both C-TRAN and TriMet,” said C-TRAN Chief Executive Officer Leann Caver. “That’s why it’s important for our transit systems to work together to create a seamless experience across communities. These improvements make it even easier to navigate, no matter your destination.”

“SAM and TriMet have worked together on many projects throughout the years,” said Andi Howell, Transit Director for Sandy Area Metro. “This project is particularly gratifying as it provides an easy, regional approach to travel and trip planning. TriMet really took the lead and pulled us all together, proving that the more transit agencies and governments work together, the better the customer service and travel experience no matter where your journey starts and stops.”

“For over a decade, Ride Connection, Washington County, and TriMet have partnered together to enhance our transit system. Community Connector shuttles, managed in collaboration, help riders make that first or last mile connection by bus,” said Ride Connection CEO Andy Nelson. “The Trip Planner update is an exceptional outcome of this partnership, allowing riders to plan trips across transit services, including GroveLink, BethanyLink and SPOT Microtransit.”

“Washington Park welcomes millions of visitors each year, and expanding access through transit is one of our highest priorities,” stated Mike Murawski, Executive Director of Explore Washington Park. “We’re proud to partner with TriMet to integrate the Washington Park Free Shuttle into its Regional Trip Planner, creating a more seamless transit experience and giving visitors greater confidence to plan their journey across the region’s transportation network.”

Support for the latest improvements came from Oregon’s Statewide Transportation Improvement Fund, to make regional transit connections easier.

Travel beyond TriMet

Now, you can plan your trip on transit beyond TriMet and Portland Streetcar.

Intuitive itineraries

It’s common sense: Itineraries are easier to follow when each step is numbered and includes all of the information you need.

We’ve made big improvements so our Trip Planner does a better job of walking you through your journey, step by step. Along with fare information, each itinerary now tells you how many stops before your destination, wait times for transfers and which type of vehicle you’ll be boarding. If you’re taking a trip right away, it will give you real-time arrival information for the first vehicle in your journey. We’ve also made the itinerary easier to read and edit on all devices.

Dark mode

You’ve asked, and we’ve delivered! trimet.org can now be viewed in dark mode, reducing eye strain for many users.

You can toggle between dark and light mode from the “Settings” menu. In auto mode, trimet.org will adjust settings automatically based on your device settings, matching your other websites and applications.

Use of dark mode has also been found to extend the battery life of certain smartphones.

TriMet at your fingertips

TriMet is Oregon’s largest transit provider. Our service area covers 533 square miles across three counties — Clackamas, Multnomah and Washington — with regular bus, MAX and WES service, along with LIFT paratransit service.

We’ve invested in making TriMet reliable, convenient and welcoming for all. You can plan your trip and track your transit vehicle at trimet.org. Real-time arrival information for TriMet buses and trains is displayed on our website, as well as at all MAX stations and many bus stops.

Additionally, trimet.org is fully supported in six languages: English, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Korean, Russian and Vietnamese.

Contrary to popular belief, TriMet does not have an app that you can download from an app store. Rather, trimet.org functions as a web app that you can save to your home screen for easy, anytime access. iPhone users can follow the steps listed here to create a shortcut for the app on their home screen; Android users, start here
