As we celebrate Women’s History Month, TriMet wants to thank the women who help drive our workforce. Some safely operate our buses and trains. Many others work behind the scenes to keep our region moving – whether it is by providing emergency assistance from our dispatch center, performing maintenance on our vehicles, keeping our facilities clean and safe or planning improvements to our service. TriMet applauds and appreciates the contribution of the hundreds of women on our team who proudly serve the community and help make it a better place for all.
Who is the TriMet woman?
TriMet’s workforce is as diverse as the communities we serve, as are the hundreds of women who have chosen to work at TriMet. Our woman employees represent a broad array of ethnic backgrounds, ages, levels of experience and education. They all have one goal: to provide and support safe, reliable transportation and excellent customer service.
“I define the TriMet woman as bold, independent, intelligent, brave… We work nights you know,” said bus operator Christie Mayhew.
“The TriMet woman is diverse. She’s from all cultures, all backgrounds,” said bus operator Charmayne Stone. “She’s a bus driver, a train operator, a mechanic. She’s a capable woman and can do anything.”
Did you know?
TriMet’s longest-serving current operator is a woman. Cindy Kassab has been in the driver’s seat for 45 years. She also holds an impressive safety record and is on track to receive her 45th award from the National Safety Council later this year. In 2019, Cindy received TriMet’s highest honor for safety, performance and customer service. She received a Gold Grand Master award, the second woman in TriMet’s history to reach that achievement.
