Steer Your Career: Join the TriMet team

Hiring event scheduled for October 19 at the Oregon Convention Center

Looking for a career with room to maneuver? Put yourself in the driver’s seat. Come work for TriMet! On Thursday, Oct. 19, 2017, TriMet will host a “Steer Your Career” hiring and recruitment event at the Oregon Convention Center. Apply in person, attend an orientation and learn about part-time bus operator and maintenance positions that will put you on the road to full-time work.

TriMet provides bus, light rail and commuter rail service throughout the Portland, Oregon region. Our transportation options offer a vital service, connecting people with their community, easing traffic congestion and reducing air pollution. Working at TriMet is an opportunity to earn a living wage and excellent benefits, as well as join a growing team of dedicated employees. TriMet hired 260 new bus operators in 2016 and continues a robust effort to build its workforce due to growth and service expansion.

Bus operator Harold Williams Two grew up in Portland and remembers taking the bus as a child. After graduating from Jefferson High School and earning a college degree, he worked as a consultant before turning his attention to transportation. He decided on a career with TriMet after attending a hiring event several years ago. “I came to TriMet for the opportunity to make a living and to move up,” said Williams Two. “This seemed like a doorway to a bigger thing.”

Now, working as a full time bus operator, Williams Two appreciates being part of a team. “I enjoy interacting with my coworkers,” he said. “TriMet people look out for each other, even if it’s just acknowledging each other as you drive by.” He plans to continue to grow with TriMet. “If you want variety and opportunity, this is the place. There are career tracks that you can follow. This is one of the places that can help you provide for yourself and your family and put yourself in a very good position, for life.”
