TriMet teams up with Uber and MADD to get you home safely in the new year
As you ring in 2016, we’ve got safe, reliable — and inexpensive — ways to get you home safely.
Not only is TriMet service free after 8 p.m. and MAX light rail runs later, until about 3 a.m., we’ve joined forces with Uber and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) to give you even more options and help keep the roads safe.
If you’re still out celebrating with friends after bus service ends, new Uber customers will get $25 off their ride home by using code “PDXNYE”. It sure beats a $2,000 fine and a one-year license suspension for DUI.
The promo code is valid all of New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Don’t have the Uber app? Download it from Google Play or iTunes. During the promotion, Uber will donate $1 to MADD for each ride taken.
“TriMet, MADD and Uber are committed to keeping the roads safe, which is why we’re pooling together our resources for a unified campaign on New Year’s Eve,” says Bryce Bennett, Uber’s general manager for the Portland metro area. “People can leave their cars at home on New Year’s Eve with confidence they have a safe ride home for the entire evening.”
While you’re out celebrating, stay safe when crossing streets and MAX tracks. Take just a moment to stop and look both ways before crossing and make sure an umbrella, hood or other clothing doesn’t block your view of approaching trains, buses or autos.
