Portland Marathon to affect TriMet service Sunday, Oct. 4

No driving or parking on the Transit Mall

If you’re riding TriMet on Sunday, Oct. 4, plan for detours and expected delays as the annual Portland Marathon will cross MAX tracks and bus routes.

Bus service impacts
We’ll have detours for 14 bus routes Sunday which include lines 4, 6, 12, 14, 15, 17, 19, 20, 35, 44, 54, 56, 72 and 77. Other bus lines will experience periodic delays as they stop for runners and walkers. Plan some extra time when riding Sunday, especially if traveling through Downtown Portland.

MAX service impacts
You also should plan some extra time if you’re riding MAX through the marathon route. Trains on all MAX lines may hold for up to 15 minutes in several locations so participants can safely cross the tracks. Check out the course map for the marathon and half-marathon.

No driving or parking on the Transit Mall
If you’re heading to the marathon, don’t drive or park on the transit-only lanes on the Portland Transit Mall. In the past, vehicles have stopped in bus lanes and on MAX tracks on 5th and 6th avenues to drop off participants. Blocking transit-only lanes is unsafe and illegal.

See something? Say something.
Whether riding TriMet, attending the Portland Marathon or enjoying another community event, please be aware of your surroundings and the people around you. If you see something suspicious or alarming, say something. Call 911 or if you’re on a TriMet vehicle, let the driver know.
