TriMet to roll out $1.6 million in spring service improvements effective March 1

by

TriMet’s spring service change is just around the corner and it will bring $1.6 million in added trips and schedule changes. A total of 18 bus lines, including 10 Frequent Service lines, will see adjustments that are focused on matching schedules to traffic conditions, relieving crowding and reducing wait and transfer times.

Starting Sunday, March 1, 2015, bus lines 4, 6, 8, 9, 12, 14, 15, 20, 33, 47, 52, 54, 56, 57, 71, 75, 88 and 93 will have updated schedules. Additionally, other bus lines may have minor schedule adjustments of one to two minutes. Bus stop locations at the Tigard Transit Center for lines 12, 45, 64 and 76/78 will be relocated within the transit center to improve operational efficiency.

The spring 2015 service change follows $5.5 million in service investments added this past fall. With those improvements in September, as well as additional adjustments last March, TriMet expanded service on the Frequent Service bus network, which carries roughly 58 percent of our ridership. Since then, ridership on the Frequent Service lines has consistently risen from month to month.

In addition to these service improvements, transfer times will be extended from the current two hours to 2.5 hours for all bus and train trips beginning March 1.

Improving the ride

We know our riders want more and better service. That’s why, over the next few years, we’re working to grow our network of buses and trains—while improving the overall rider experience. By the end of this year we will have restored service hours back to pre-recession levels, which means less waiting and less crowding on board buses and trains. And, we’re improving our trip tools so you have access to service information when and where you need it, along with convenient ways to pay your fare.

New transit projects, such as the Portland-Milwaukie MAX Orange Line opening in 2015, will provide riders a much-needed alternative to sitting in traffic. Meanwhile, ongoing upgrades to vehicles, stations and tracks are helping to improve reliability and make your ride more comfortable.
