TriMet no longer pursuing off-street layover in NE Portland
After many months of outreach including community meetings and conversations with neighbors and riders, TriMet is no longer pursuing construction of a permanent off-street layover location for Line 8-NE Jackson Park/NE 15th in Northeast Portland. Instead, we are researching less expensive options that may be a better fit for all involved.
Changes to the Line 8 made in September 2012 led to buses laying over at Northeast Dekum and Durham. After concerns were raised by the neighborhood, TriMet moved the layover location, and has continued to work with residents, businesses and the Woodlawn Neighborhood Association to lessen the impact of the changes. In spring and summer of 2013, we were able to move bus layovers to alternate locations at NE Ainsworth at Grand Avenue and NE Winchell at Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
To further support the neighborhood, all bus layovers on weekends at NE Ainsworth will move to the NE Winchell site beginning November 30. We continue to look for an alternative location for layovers that remain at NE Ainsworth, and anticipate all weekday layovers will be in a new location sometime in 2015.
We will continue to engage the community as we move through this process as we find a layover location that supports the neighborhood and our riders.
