Devine is promoted from Interim General Counsel; continues to lead Legal Department and advise the General Manager and TriMet Board of Directors
TriMet is pleased to announce that Shelley Devine has been promoted to the agency’s General Counsel. Devine has been at TriMet for six years, and was named Interim General Counsel in October 2013.
As General Counsel, Devine will continue to lead the Legal Department and its skilled legal team, as well as advise the General Manager and TriMet Board of Directors.
“Shelley’s knowledge of the agency and expertise in litigation and labor law are invaluable to the organization,” said TriMet General Manager Neil McFarlane. “She provides both a thoughtful and practical perspective on TriMet’s legal matters. She’s a terrific addition to my team.”
In March 2008, Devine joined TriMet as Senior Deputy General Counsel, focusing on labor, employment and operations. During her tenure she has demonstrated her leadership and commitment to transit.
Prior to coming to TriMet, Devine served as in-house counsel for two national companies headquartered in the Portland area — KinderCare and Hollywood Video. She spent the early years of her career as a litigation associate and partner in the San Francisco office of the national law firm Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal and as a litigation associate at Stoel Rives in Portland.
Devine received her doctor of jurisprudence degree from the University of California, Berkeley, where she was Book Review Editor of the California Law Review, and received her B.A. in Journalism with honors from the University of Oregon.
A native Oregonian, Devine remembers as a “tween” riding TriMet to the “exciting new transit mall” downtown to explore the library, museums and department stores. She still rides TriMet regularly and enjoys reading on her commute to and from work on the Green Line and the Line 17 bus.
