There’s just four days left to weigh in on the final four names for the Portland-Milwaukie Light Rail Transit Bridge. The finalists for the unique transit bridge are Abigail Scott Duniway, Cascadia, Tillicum Crossing and Wy’east. Public feedback will close at 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 1.
The comments will be provided to the Bridge Naming Committee for consideration. This is the first time the public has had the opportunity to suggest names for a bridge over the Willamette River in our area, and weigh in on the final selection. The committee used the criteria below to select the final four names with a focus that the name would reflect regional importance, including:
- Origin of name
- Meaning of proposed name
- Is it inspirational? If so, why?
- Does it reflect how bridge connects people? If so, how?
- Historical significance (if any)
- Biographical info (if commemorative)
- Any special cultural meaning?
- What will it mean 100 years from now?
- Regional perspective
