Suspect in TriMet operator assault arrested by Transit Police officers

Less than 24 hours after a suspect assaulted a TriMet operator in North Portland, a Transit Police Division officer patrolling in the area spotted a subject that looked like the suspect, stopped him and arrested him without incident. The assault occurred at North Richmond Avenue and Syracuse Street around 10:50 p.m. Thursday night.

An image captured from the onboard data recorder helped identify the suspect and Transit Police Division officers were actively searching the neighborhood for him. The suspect, 39-year-old Daemon Lamarr Bowman, will be charged with Assault in the Third Degree, Theft of Services and Interfering with Public Transportation.

“We appreciate the quick work by the Transit Police Division in making an arrest in this case,” said Harry Saporta, TriMet’s Executive Director of Safety, Security and Environmental Services. “We take any attack on our operators, employees or customers very seriously and we remain ever vigilant to maintain a safe and secure system. We are hopeful that the suspect will be prosecuted to the highest extent of the law.”

We are thankful for the arrest, but our thoughts and concern remain with the operator and their family as they recover from this horrible ordeal. The operator needs time to heal and has asked for privacy at this time.
