Transit options to get you around weekend I-84 closures

Interstate 84 is in for a major face-lift this summer. Roughly 5.5 miles of the Banfield between Interstate 5 and Interstate 205 will be repaved. Avoid the closures and the congestion by hopping on TriMet.

Beginning this weekend, all eastbound lanes and ramps of I-84 will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, July 12 through 5 a.m. Monday, July 15. This is the first in a series of three weekend closures by the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) who will be repaving I-84, one direction at a time.

Additional ODOT I-84 closures include:

  • 10 p.m. Friday July 19 to 5 a.m. Monday July 22 all westbound lanes between I-5 and I-205 will be closed for grinding and paving.
  • 11 p.m. Saturday Aug. 3 to 5 a.m. Monday Aug. 5 all westbound lanes between I-5 and I-205 will be closed for sign installation and restriping.

TriMet provides transit options to minimize traffic delays
MAX Blue, Red and Green Lines travel through this congested area and can help you bypass these closures.

Instead of driving all the way Park and Ride with us. TriMet provides multiple free 24-hour Park and Ride locations. Consider using the Sunset and Parkrose park and rides along the Red Line; 181st Ave, E 122nd/Menlo Park or Gateway park and rides along the Blue Line; or the Clackamas Town Center, SE Fuller, SE Holgate, SE Powell or SE Main park and rides for the Green Line.

Plan ahead
TriMet has many useful tools to help you plan your outing. Use TriMet’s Trip Planner to help map out your route. Purchase tickets online at trimet.org or pick up tickets when you’re at the grocery store. More than 100 neighborhood retail outlets including most grocery stores and the TriMet Ticket Office at Pioneer Courthouse Square sell TriMet fares.

ODOT has encouraged motorists to map out an alternate route in advance, expect heavier traffic than usual on the alternate routes and take public transit when possible.
