Going to the game? Fares are required

Sports fans heading to Blazers and Winterhawks games at the Rose Quarter need a fare to ride MAX

Taking TriMet is a convenient way to get to and from the game, but now that the Free Rail Zone is no longer, sports fans need to remember fares are required on MAX. All four MAX lines, as well as six bus lines, serve the Rose Quarter.

For the first part of the winter sports season, TriMet staff has been reminding MAX riders heading to the Rose Quarter that they need a valid fare. During this education phase, we allowed most riders without fares to purchase them after deboarding trains. Beginning Monday, Jan. 7, fare enforcement efforts will be stepped up and riders should expect to present a valid fare at the Rose Quarter or face a citation.

With the elimination of fare zones in September 2012, fares are required throughout the MAX system. Riders without a valid fare face a $175 citation or exclusion from the system. Exclusions can extend up to 90 days.

To avoid the need for two purchases – one before and one after the game – riders are encouraged to buy a day pass. It’s the same price as two 2-hour tickets.

Day Pass Fares
Adults:                        $5
Youth:                         $3.30
Honored citizens:       $2
