TriMet bus shelters vandalized; reward offered

A second rash of vandalism has occurred at bus shelters in Southeast Portland. Nine shelters were vandalized and had glass panels broken out on the night of March 26-27. This comes after 41 shelters were vandalized in February; most of those were in Southeast Portland as well. No arrests were ever made in that first vandalism spree. TriMet is offering a reward of up to $1000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for vandalizing the shelters. Anyone with information about the vandalism should call 503-238-RIDE (7433).

Broken glass poses a safety issue. TriMet crews respond within 24 hours of receiving a report to report the damage. Repairing a single shelter can cost between $500 and $1,000 for labor and materials. The February damage was tallied at more than $26,000.

The shelters damaged on March 26-27 have all been repaired. No photos are available.
